About the course

What makes the Cornhill course distinctive?

Our conviction is that the preaching of God’s word in the local church is the God-given way in which the Father makes the Son known by the work of the Spirit. We focus therefore on preaching in the context of the local church. There are no exams or assignments, but students give talks to one another in small groups and are given feedback on them.

We start off with five minute presentations and gradually extend this to twenty minute talks, for those who go on to do the complete course. Aside from this practical component, the bulk of our time is devoted to looking at books of the bible together. Our teaching does not consist purely of lectures, but is often interactive and practical, with group work, questions and discussion.

We do not, however, want simply to produce more proficient handlers of God’s word, but want students to be shaped and fashioned by God’s word and by their interaction with one another. We aim to be a learning community, sharing our lives together.
